The State assembly primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was held across the twenty-six state constiruencies in Ogun state on Sunday, 22nd of May, 2022, with various aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket.

In Ijebu north east state constituency, Mr. Seun Oretuga, popularly known as ‘Seun 02’ was declared winner by the returning officer, defeating other aspirants – Barr. Seun Adesanya and Mrs. Shonibare Fatimah.

The primary election which was monitored by our correspondent, was so peaceful, with the delegates complying with all the laid down rules guiding the conduct of the exercise. Earlier before the primaries, Instant News Blog gathered that Mr. Seun Oretuga was tipped by many, to clinch the ticket, owing to his popularity, intelligence, loyalty and commitment to the party.

This was further affirmed by delegates at the primary election as they unanimously settled for Mr. Seun Oretuga as the party’s candidate for the 2023 House of Assembly election. This was just as other aspirants and their agents failed to show up at the election.

Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the announcement of his victory, Mr. Seun Oretuga (Seun 02) showered encomiums on the elders, leaders, local government and ward executives and delegates of the party in Ijebu north east for showing confidence in him and finding and worthy of their mandates. He assured them of an impactful representation and promised to do everything required of him to maintain the progress of the party, particularly in the local government.

When contacted by our correspondent, one of the aspirants, Mrs. Shonibare Fatimo revealed that she was aware of the primary election and promised to abide by the outcome of it.

Efforts made to reach the other aspirant, Barr. Seun Adesanya via phone call proved abortive. However, a reliable source on the condition of anonymity confirmed that Barr. Seun Adesanya was also aware of the primary election but can not tell the exact reason behind his absence.

Meanwhile, the PDP chairman in Ijebu north east, Aremo Tope Ashiru also commended the conduct of the exercise and congratulated the winner. He stated that all aggrieved persons would be reached out to as the party can not afford to approach the 2023 election with a divided house.
