The Young Progressives’ Party (YPP) Is set to be hit with defection crisis as some of its top zonal executives have threatened to dump the party for being excluded from the list of eligible persons to attend the party’s convention in Abuja.
In a chat with Instant News Blog on Thursday, the south west youth leader of the party, Mr. Olorunjuwon revealed that the party has undermined his position by excluding him and others from the list of those eligible to participate at the convention.
He stated further that decisions like this can only cause uproar in the party and if not carefully handled, could lead to mass defection, especially in the south west. Mr. Olorunjuwon advised the leadership of the party to review its decision and allow inclusiveness, in the interest of the party.
“I can authoritatively tell you that the south west is boiling. I am not okay with the decision of excluding a whole south west youth leader from participating at the national convention where the presidential candidate of the party would be elected. That is totally unacceptable. Who then represents the interest of the youth at the convention or does it mean the party no longer regard the youth ?
There are still a few days away from the national convention and I believe there is enough time to review this decision before it costs the party as thousands of youth in the south west are ready to dump the party for this singular reason”, Mr. Olorunjuwon said.
