The Osun State governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke has revealed that loyalists of the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola worked for his victory in the just concluded governorship election.

Recall, on Sunday, July 17, 2022, Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged the winner of the governorship election in the state, defeating the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

There was an insinuation that Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, who had a face-off with the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu as well as the incumbent governor was behind Adeleke’s victory.

Speaking with Channels TV on Monday night, July 18, 2022, Adeleke said he never spoke with Aregbesola prior to the poll, but his allies joined forces with him to defeat the incumbent governor, who was the candidate of the ruling APC.

He said, “I did not work with Aregbesola, I did not even speak to him, but I know some APC members and his allies that joined us. I can’t tell whether Aregbesola asked his associates to support me or not because I never had a conversation with him”.

Asked to assess the election process, Adeleke said, “it is not easy to defeat an incumbent anywhere in the world.”

Meanwhile, the former governor has reacted to Gboyega Oyetola’s defeat in the state’s just concluded gubernatorial election.

The Minister of Interior who shunned the governorship election for a said trip in Germany on Sunday, July 17, 2022, posted on his social media handle that the outcome is will of God and the people as well.

In the post which has now be deleted, he said; “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” – (Daniel 4:17).”
