The statement read in part, “As a spiritual leader that I knew, the late Chief Imam was pious and selfless. He used his deep knowledge and understanding of Islam to promote joy, peace and love. Through his sermons, he drew attention to the will of the Almighty Allah and enjoined us to live right and endeavour to do good at all times.
“He was a bridge builder and peace-maker who stood for unity among Muslims and a champion of unity, equity and justice among the diverse people of Ilobu and its immediate neighbours. It is my prayer that the Almighty Allah will overlook his errors and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”
