Somehow, people seem to believe that life is supposed to be easy. We expect a very smooth road to success. We expect our lives to be free from challenges. We rely too much on the government to solve our problems. We expect to get the prize without having to pay the price. The truth is; we all have to stop living in false pretext because life is truly hard.
Once we accept the fact that life is hard, we begin to grow. We begin to understand that every problem is also an opportunity. It is then that we dig down and discover what we are made of. We begin to accept the challenges of life. Instead of letting our hardship defeat us, we welcome them as a test of character. We use them as a means of rising up to occasion.
We must accept that everyday the society bombard us with messages that are quite the opposite. To begin with, technology has given us push-button way of life. We cook dinners, pay bills and wash dishes by simply pushing the right buttons. LG will tell us Life is Good. We are told there is a quick and easy way to do just about everything. Yes! Truly, life is good, but life is equally difficult.
Within just past few day, I have read or heard that you can lose a 100pounds, learn to speak foreign languages fluently, become a hot new radio personality, get a contractors licence, and make a million dollars in real estate. You can achieve all of these in a matter of days, with little efforts.
Those ads are all around us because the people in advertisement and marketing have a good understanding of human behavior. They know that most don’t accept life as hard and will continue to look for quick fix instead.
There is no quick and easy way. Nothing worth having in life comes without effort. I have never seen a man in our history who had led a life of ease, whose life is worth remembering. M. Scott Peck begins his book “The Road Less Travelled” with the words, “Life is Difficult.” he wants to set the stage for everything else he communicates in the book. If we don’t understand and accept the truth that life is difficult, then we set ourselves up for failure and we won’t learn. No man has the monopoly of sorrow, the rich also cry.
I wish you all a great workday ahead.
