It is commonly said that “heaven itself announces the passing of great icons”. So, it was with the final burial rites of Pa. Gabriel Oyinlola Olumodan, the father of Mr. Isaiah Adeniyi Olumodan (a.k.a Oluomo) whose burial programme and reception party would remain a talk of the town for a very long time.

The funeral programme which began with wake keep service at Odomoro, Oke Agbo, Ijebu Igbo, attracted dignitaries and people of means and substance.

The late sage remains Funeral Service was held in the morning of Friday, 15th day of September, 2023, at the African Church, Cathedral of St. John, Oke Agbo, Ijebu Igbo. The church was filled to capacity with dignitaries from all walks of life.

At the church service, the Bishop in charge prayed with confidence that God would raise the deceased to perfection in the company of the saints. He also admonished brethren to emulate the good life Pa. Olumodan lived, describing him as “epitome of peace”.

Prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased.

In their tributes, the children of Pa. Gabriel Oyinlola Olumodan disclosed that their father made them to understand that quality living meant fear of the Almighty, love and respect for humanity, self-dignity, integrity and hard-work.

While noting that they were also made to be contented with whatever was provided for them and never to envy others, the children said “Daddy, you procured the best possible education you could for us and told us the best legacy a parent could leave for children is education and that such education transcends the classroom.

“You believed in us and we also believed in ourselves. One great lesson was that of the “genuine grade”: that the “honest C” was more honourable than the “stolen A”.

His burial was attended by top dignitaries and notable businessmen across Ijebu Igbo.

Meanwhile, the final burial ceremony for their mother, Late. Madam Sherifat Akinwunmi Olumodan was held on Thursday, 14th of September, 2023 with Alh. Latif Olanrewaju Katibi Bello (Aponle Anobi) in attendance as the guest lecturer. The four-day long event began with special prayer on Monday, 11th of September, 2023.

The children, in honour of their late mother, embarked on several projects which included; complete overhauling of the roofing of IGA mosque, sinking of motorized borehole at Imagbon mosque, donation of a brand new generator to Odomoro mosque, window renovation at Odobotu mosque and donation of six megaphone speakers to Oke Moro mosque.

At the reception, held at Shamsudeen Grammar School field, popular female entertainer, Oyinlomo Diamond thrilled guests to good music.
