The Lagos State Police Command has brought charges against a Bet Naija attendant, Bojuwoye Adetola, and her associate, Bunmi Dada, accusing them of collaborating to steal N16.7 million from Lukman Issa, a customer who had placed a bet at their outlet in the Iddo area of Lagos State.

Adetola and Dada were presented before Magistrate F.F. George on Monday, facing two counts related to theft.

The police prosecutor, James Okosun, informed the court that the two women, along with others who are currently evading arrest, committed the alleged theft between September 12 and 24, 2023, within the Iddo area of Lagos Island.

These actions are said to violate Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

According to Issa, the complainant, he played 36 games on September 12 and won all of them. However, upon attempting to collect his winnings from Adetola, the Bet Naija attendant, he was informed that he would receive N800,000 initially, but has yet to receive any payment.

“I went to the Bet Naija shop to see Adetola; her boss is abroad, so she is the only one there. She said I should come back and collect the first N800,000. I went there but she did not give me any money. I noticed she had been taking the money bit by bit and had planned with her friends to finish the money and not give me any dime.”

Issa further expressed frustration with the lack of assistance from Bet Naija’s head office, asserting that the entire sum of N16.7 million remains unaccounted for.

The charges against Adetola and Dada include conspiracy and theft, as outlined in the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Magistrate George granted them bail in the amount of N500,000 each, along with two responsible sureties.

The case has been adjourned until March 4, 2024, for further proceedings.
