Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, emphasized his commitment to sustained purposeful governance and administrative efficiency during a recent event honoring outstanding athletes. Fubara expressed this commitment while hosting Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who represented Nigeria in the 2023 African Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

During the gathering, Governor Fubara announced a N20 million reward for Nwabali and revealed plans to bestow upon him the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State. Additionally, Fubara extended a N30 million gift to the Super Eagles’ crew present at the event.

In a gesture of support for sporting excellence, Fubara also presented a N50 million grant to the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team for emerging as champions in the Louis Edem National League competition.

The governor’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi, conveyed these announcements in a statement to the press.

Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing conducive environments for Rivers people to excel, thus changing the global perception of the state. He commended Nwabali and the Super Eagles for their remarkable performance in the AFCON, underscoring the pride they brought to Nigeria.

Addressing Nwabali directly, Fubara praised his outstanding goalkeeping skills and credited the collective effort of the team for their success.

He urged residents to uphold positive actions that enhance the state’s reputation and attract recognition.

Christopher Green, the State Commissioner for Sports, commended Fubara’s support, which contributed to the triumph of the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team. Similarly, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, a former Commissioner for Justice and ex-Super Eagles player, lauded Fubara’s purposeful leadership in fostering sports development in the state.
