President Bola Tinubu has instructed for the prompt settlement of a longstanding electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was clarified that Tinubu’s directive came after a thorough review of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
Contrary to AEDC’s initial claim of N923 million debt, as advertised in newspapers, the outstanding bill from the State House amounts to N342,352,217.46, as outlined in a letter from AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024.
With both parties reaching a satisfactory reconciliation, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has assured that the debt will be settled before the week concludes.
In line with this resolution, the Chief of Staff has also encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to undertake similar reconciliation processes with AEDC and settle their electricity bills promptly.
