Liverpool secured a dramatic Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley, thanks to Virgil van Dijk’s crucial header in extra time.

Van Dijk’s initial header was controversially disallowed for offside on the hour mark, but he made no mistake when he nodded home from Kostas Tsimikas’ corner in the 118th minute.

Despite missing key players such as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota, as well as losing Ryan Gravenberch to injury, Liverpool managed to secure their 10th Carabao Cup triumph.

Jurgen Klopp’s team now stands on the brink of a potential quadruple in his farewell season, dealing a bitter blow to Chelsea and manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea, who have now lost six consecutive Wembley finals, squandered numerous opportunities throughout the game.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher once again displayed heroics, denying Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher, while also thwarting their efforts in a frantic goalmouth scramble during normal time.

Despite both teams creating chances, it was Van Dijk’s late header that ultimately secured victory for Liverpool, leaving Pochettino still chasing his first trophy in England.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
