The Ogun Area I Command of the Nigeria Customs Service made a significant interception on Friday, revealing the concealment of 940 rounds of live ammunition within sacks of cassava flakes, commonly known as garri.

Additionally, the command disclosed the seizure of 123 sacks and 3,172 parcels of cannabis sativa, 380 pieces of donkey skin, 304 bales of used clothes, and 910 cartons of frozen poultry products, among other contraband items, amounting to a Duty Paid Value of N557,120,828.00.

Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, the Customs Area Controller, addressed journalists at Idiroko area, detailing the operation. He explained that the ammunition, smuggled from the Republic of Benin, was under surveillance for over two weeks before being intercepted.

Shuaibu highlighted the sophistication of the smuggling network but praised the command’s superior security measures that led to the seizure, despite the suspects absconding to evade arrest.

Moreover, he emphasized the grave threat posed by such illicit activities to national security and urged Nigerians to collaborate in combating smuggling, particularly of harmful substances and weapons.

Commending his team’s dedication, Shuaibu warned smugglers of impending consequences, assuring that they would face the full force of the law.

“We shall continue to uncover their schemes, and soon they will be apprehended and prosecuted,” Shuaibu affirmed, underscoring the Customs’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding national interests.
