The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Cole was detained in Abuja’s Lugbe area after making the threat on Instagram under the handle “1billionsecretss” in response to an Instablog9ja post on February 1, 2024. The agency announced this development via a statement released on Wednesday.

According to the statement, EFCC operatives arrested Cole on March 18, 2024, in the Lugbe area of Abuja after he made the death threat against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede, through his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss,” while commenting on a story posted by Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024. The post by Instablog9ja highlighted the EFCC’s discovery of money laundering activities involving religious groups, with proceeds amounting to N7 billion.

In his comment on Instablog9ja, Cole predicted the death of the EFCC Chairman within six months, stating, “He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6 months remember I said it.” During interrogation, Cole claimed that he was merely seeking attention.

The EFCC stated that Cole would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

This incident occurred shortly after Olukoyede disclosed the EFCC’s findings on January 30, 2024, regarding money laundering activities involving religious groups in Nigeria.
