A devastating fire outbreak has ravaged a 4-storey building in Dosumu Market, Idumota, Lagos Island, resulting in the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.
Reports indicate that the fire, which engulfed the building housing both residential units and fabric shops, broke out around 7:01 AM on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Traders recount that the blaze originated at No. 47 Dosumu Street and quickly spread to adjacent structures, affecting buildings at No. 45, No. 47, No. 49A, and No. 49B on Dosumu Street, Lagos Island.
Upon arrival at the scene, journalists observed that the primary building where the fire originated, No. 47, had collapsed under the intense heat and flames.
Emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Team at Lekki, LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Ports Authority Fire Service, LASAMBUS Officials, LNSC officials, CBD Crew, and the Nigeria Police Force, swiftly mobilized to contain the inferno and assist affected individuals.
The extent of the damage and efforts towards recovery are ongoing as authorities work to assess the situation and support those impacted by the tragic incident.
