The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a pregnant married woman who orchestrated her own abduction, demanding a ransom of N2 million from her husband. Shockingly, it was revealed that upon receiving the ransom, she split the money with her suspected boyfriend, with whom she conspired to defraud her husband.

CP Benneth Igweh disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, while parading the suspects.

According to CP Igweh, the incident occurred on March 11, 2024, when Chiedozie Ubah reported that his pregnant wife, Rosemary Ubah, failed to return home after supposedly going to the hospital for a scan. Subsequently, he received a call demanding a N2 million ransom for her release, which he promptly paid into her account as instructed.

Upon her release and subsequent interrogation, Rosemary confessed to colluding with a man named Walter Ezeala, their neighbor, to extort money from her husband. Walter corroborated this confession, admitting to receiving N800,000 while Rosemary took N1.2 million of the ransom. Police recovered N793,500 in cash, two FCMB ATM cards, and two Android phones from them.

In a separate incident, CP Igweh narrated the arrest of a man who staged his own kidnapping to test his girlfriend’s loyalty. Pascal Akuh allegedly called his brother, claiming to be detained by the police, which led to a frantic search by authorities and family members. Pascal was eventually traced to a hotel in Lokogoma and arrested. He confessed to orchestrating the hoax to gauge his girlfriend’s affection.

Furthermore, the police paraded Alex Lorjaa, a dismissed military officer, for using military attire to rob and attempt kidnappings in Abuja. Lorjaa confessed to being aided by a serving military accomplice.

CP Igweh assured the public of ongoing investigations and pledged the FCT Police Command’s commitment to curbing crime and ensuring safety in the region.
