Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan showcased her dominance once again, securing her third consecutive gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Games held in Ghana. Despite facing a false-start scare during the initial race attempt, which earned her a yellow card, Amusan blazed through the hurdles with an impressive time of 12.89 seconds. This victory marks her ongoing reign as the African Games champion in the event.

Facing tough competition, Amusan outpaced Sidonie Fiadanantsoa of Madagascar, who finished in second place with a time of 13.19 seconds. Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian athlete Faith Osamuyi narrowly missed the podium, securing fourth place with a time of 13.77 seconds.

Amusan’s stellar performance adds to her already illustrious career, highlighted by her world record-breaking run of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles semi-final at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Notably, she holds titles and records in the 100m hurdles at both the Commonwealth and African levels.

Making history as the first Nigerian athlete to claim a world championship and world record in athletics, Amusan continues to elevate her sport. Her outstanding achievements include consecutive Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022, solidifying her status as a three-time African Games champion in the 100m hurdles.
