Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a significant decision by waiving the 25% penalty on improperly imported vehicles. This decision, announced by Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada, comes following directives from the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun.

Initially, on March 3, Customs had introduced a 90-day window, running from March 4, 2024, to July 5, 2024, allowing for the regularization of import duties specifically for certain vehicle categories.

Mr. Abdullahi clarified that the cancellation of the penalty is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate economic hardships and encourage importers to proceed with clearing their vehicles.

He urged stakeholders, including vehicle owners, importers, and agents, to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure the regularization of import duty payments within the designated 90-day timeframe.
