In a significant development, the government of Niger Republic has officially reopened its land border with Nigeria, located in Konni, following the directive from the Nigerian Customs Service and the Presidency to resume operations at the Illela border crossing.
According to Nuhu Samaila, a source in Konni, Niger Republic, the border was officially declared open at 12 pm on Friday. He expressed appreciation for the decision, crediting the leadership, including the Military junta, for heeding the calls of the people and taking steps to reopen the border.
“This decision by our government is commendable and long-awaited. Opening the border will undoubtedly enhance economic activities between Nigeria and Niger Republic,” remarked Samaila.
The reopening of the border is expected to foster increased trade opportunities and economic growth for both countries. It comes as part of a broader initiative by the Nigerian Customs Service to comply with the federal government’s directives to reopen all land and air borders across northern states and the country.
The recent reopening of the Konni-Illela border in Sokoto State further underscores the commitment to facilitating lawful trade and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
