Tragedy struck during Tarawih prayers in Mairua Community, Katsina, as bandits attacked the home of Alhaji Lado Mairua, resulting in the death of two worshippers and the abduction of his wife and 15-year-old daughter, confirmed by Musa Ado Faskari, Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area (LGA).

In a statement to BBC Hausa, Faskari detailed the harrowing events, stating that the assailants fatally shot Alhaji Lado Mairua when he refused to comply with their demands. Additionally, a neighbor who witnessed the incident and raised an alarm was also killed by the bandits.

Expressing grave concern over the escalating violence, Faskari highlighted the frequency of attacks in the region, citing the bandits’ growing audacity. He recounted a recent incident in Malalai village where two individuals were killed, and two women were abducted, along with the killing of a soldier in Ruwan Godiya on the same day.

Faskari appealed for urgent federal intervention, emphasizing the need for security forces to take decisive action against the bandits. He stressed that without proactive measures to confront the perpetrators and dismantle their hideouts, the attacks would persist unabated, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of residents.

The call for immediate government intervention underscores the gravity of the situation in Katsina and the pressing need to address the escalating violence perpetrated by bandits in the region.
