Veteran Nollywood luminary, Amaechi Muonagor, has passed away at the age of 62 following a prolonged battle with illness, as confirmed by social commentator Morris Monye via his online platform on Sunday.

Muonagor had been grappling with kidney failure and undergoing dialysis treatments before his untimely demise. His passing comes shortly after a widely circulated video where he appealed for financial assistance to undergo a kidney transplant.

Expressing sorrow over Muonagor’s death, Monye remarked, “We are deeply saddened by Amaechi Muonagor’s departure. His remarkable talent graced Nollywood screens with mastery.”

“We observed his health struggles with concern, offering support for his treatment journey, including efforts to seek medical care abroad. This tragic loss underscores the pressing need for enhanced healthcare infrastructure in our nation,” Monye added.

Born on August 20, 1962, Muonagor hailed from Idemili, Anambra State. He carved a niche for himself as both an actor and a producer in the Nigerian film industry. Notably, he received a nomination for the 2017 AMVCA Best Actor in a Comedy category.

Following his national youth service, Muonagor ventured into acting, leaving his position at the News Agency of Nigeria to pursue his passion. His debut role as Akunatakasi in the Nigerian movie “Taboo 1” marked the beginning of a distinguished career in the entertainment realm.
