137 Kaduna schoolchildren abducted from LEA School Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area were successfully rescued in Zamfara by troops, as confirmed by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Sunday.

Initially kidnapped on March 7, 2024, by suspected terrorists who demanded a ransom of N1bn, the pupils and teachers were liberated in a predawn operation supported by local authorities and government agencies. Maj Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported that 76 females and 61 males were among the 137 rescued individuals, all of whom will be transferred to the Kaduna State Government.

This rescue follows closely after the liberation of 16 pupils (Almajiris) and a woman in Gada LGA of Sokoto State. The DHQ emphasized that these successful operations reflect the military’s unwavering commitment to securing the release of kidnapped victims nationwide.

Efforts are also underway to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the recent killing of soldiers in Delta State, as part of the armed forces’ dedication to ensuring justice for all victims of terrorism and violence.
