The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two individuals, Aliu Oyetola, aged 35, and Seyi Afolabi, aged 40, believed to be part of a notorious four-man gang of ‘one chance’ robbers operating in Sango Ota and its surroundings.

The arrests occurred when police operatives from Sango Ota, on routine patrol around Itori, the headquarters of Ewekoro Local Government area, intercepted the suspects on March 28, 2024.

According to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state police command, the arrests followed a report from a victim who was robbed on March 23, 2024, losing over N320,000 to the robbers.

Detailing the incident, Odutola stated, “The victim boarded a Toyota Corolla taxi at Ijako market, headed to Itori, unaware that the four men inside were criminals. During the journey, they forcefully robbed her of valuables, including a smartphone valued at N85,000, N123,000 from POS machine sales, and an additional N105,000 in cash, before pushing her out of the vehicle and fleeing.”

Acting on the victim’s report, the DPO Sango Ota Division directed surveillance teams to track down the perpetrators.

Further elaborating, Odutola revealed that on March 28, 2024, while the police were on surveillance along Itori Road, a Toyota Corolla similar to the one used by the gang approached. The occupants attempted to flee, but police officers pursued and arrested Oyetola and Afolabi.

The police recovered a Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number GGE 659 FR.

Both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crimes and provided valuable information to aid in apprehending other members of the gang who are currently on the run.

Commissioner of Police CP Abiodun Alamutu has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Anti-robbery Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
