Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a 44-year-old opposition candidate, has officially assumed office as the fifth President of Senegal. The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, took place in Diamniadio, a new town near Dakar, and was attended by various African leaders, including Nigeria’s President and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of States and Government, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Faye’s ascension to the presidency marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the youngest elected president in Africa. He succeeds Macky Sall, the immediate past president, and assumes the leadership of Senegal amidst high expectations and aspirations from the Senegalese people.
