Governor Fubara of Rivers State has delivered a stern message to those misinterpreting his commitment to implementing the presidential peace accord as a sign of weakness. In a recent address to members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), he clarified his stance, emphasizing that his adherence to the Abuja Agreement stemmed from respect for President Tinubu’s intervention in the state’s political crisis, rather than constitutional obligation.
Speaking during a solidarity rally at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara underscored the importance of distinguishing between political solutions and constitutional mandates. He cautioned against viewing his compliance with the peace pact as a vulnerability, asserting that he stands ready to act decisively if provoked.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara highlighted the overwhelming support his administration continues to receive from the people of Rivers State, as evidenced by the significant turnout at the NULGE rally. He reaffirmed his commitment to governance guided by principles of fairness and genuine service to the populace, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law while pursuing peace and progress.
In a show of appreciation for the workers’ unwavering support, Governor Fubara announced ongoing initiatives to improve their welfare, including the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage and plans for the regular payment of benefits to retirees.
Responding to the governor’s remarks, NULGE representatives expressed gratitude for the positive impact of his policies on workers’ lives and pledged continued support at both state and national levels.
Similarly, the chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commended Governor Fubara for prioritizing workers’ welfare and warned against any attempt to undermine his leadership. He emphasized the readiness of organized labor to defend the governor’s mandate and called for unity in the face of potential challenges.
In conclusion, Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to principled leadership and urged all stakeholders to work together in pursuit of a prosperous and peaceful Rivers State.
