Godwin Emefiele, the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has arrived at the Ikeja State High Court in Lagos for his arraignment on charges of alleged abuse of office and misallocation of billions of dollars.
Accompanied by his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole, Emefiele is set to face 26 fresh counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi this morning.
In a charge filed under ID/23787c/2024, dated April 3, 2024, the EFCC alleges that Emefiele abused his office between 2022 and 2023 in Lagos.
The commission claims that Emefiele, in his capacity as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, authorized the allocation of foreign exchange totaling $2,136,391,737.33 without following due process, which is deemed prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.
