President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government has designated the first week of April as Police Week, culminating in April 7th being recognized as National Police Day.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, disclosed this during the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

President Tinubu emphasized the significance of honoring the Police Force’s role in the nation by dedicating this week and day to their service. He underscored his administration’s commitment to modernizing the force through comprehensive training and capacity-building initiatives.

Recognizing the need for a shift in the institutional mindset of police officers, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle modern policing challenges effectively. He pledged government support in upgrading equipment and technology to enhance operational efficiency and officer safety.

In acknowledging the sacrifices of the police force amidst stretched security resources, President Tinubu praised their resilience and patriotism, expressing confidence in a brighter future.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for honoring the dedication and hard work of police personnel.

Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, stressed the importance of recognizing and supporting the selfless service of police officers, emphasizing the need for adequate training, resources, and support systems.

In his welcome remarks, IGP Egbetokun lauded President Tinubu’s support for the force and assured continued dedication, courage, and selflessness in serving the nation.
