The Federal High Court in Lagos State has granted Pascal Okechukwu, famously known as Cubana Chief Priest, bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties, following his plea of not guilty to charges of tampering and abusing the naira.

Cubana Chief Priest was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts related to the abuse of the nation’s currency at a social event, alleged to have taken place on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel.

The charges, outlined in the document marked FHC/L/ 246/2024, accuse him of spraying and tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, an offense contravening the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that it has been investigating several celebrities for similar offenses, and some have already provided statements to the commission.

This development comes after the recent conviction of another public figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, leading to a six-month imprisonment sentence.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to enforcing laws against currency abuse, emphasizing that no one is exempt from prosecution.
