President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja for Lagos on Saturday to commence the inauguration of projects completed under his administration. This initiative marks the first anniversary of his presidency, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 29.
According to a State House press statement titled “President Tinubu Set to Inaugurate Projects to Mark One Year in Office,” and signed by the Special Adviser for Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Lagos is the first stop in a series of nationwide project commissions. These events will span from Sunday through Friday.
In Lagos on Sunday, the President will inaugurate the newly paved concrete road leading to the nation’s major ports in Apapa and Tin Can Island. This project, initiated under the Muhammadu Buhari administration and financed by the Dangote Group through tax credits, is now completed.
Additionally, on Sunday, President Tinubu will virtually inaugurate the refurbished Third Mainland Bridge, which has been praised for its excellent finishing and aesthetic enhancements. He will also commission, virtually, the rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges across the country.
The highlight of Sunday’s events will be the inauguration of the iconic Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, a project estimated to cost about N15 trillion. This legacy project, which will connect nine coastal states, has Section Two already awarded to Hitech Construction Limited.
Following these events, President Tinubu will return to Abuja on Tuesday to continue the commissioning activities. His first engagement will be the inauguration of the Southern Parkway, named after him by the Nyesom Wike-led FCT Administration.
On Wednesday, President Tinubu will attend the National Assembly Dialogue Series and subsequently unveil the National Assembly Library Complex, also named in his honor. The commissioning of the Abuja Metro (Abuja Light Rail) project will follow.
The President will relaunch the commercial operations of Abuja Metro by symbolically joining a train ride to the city center. The Abuja Metro, completed in 2018 under the Buhari administration, was in use until 2020 but was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent vandalism. FCT Minister Wike has since refurbished the service, spending $15 million and constructing access roads to the stations.
After the train ride, President Tinubu will inaugurate the Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge and the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters.
The final event of the week will be the commissioning of the NASENI-Portland Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Reverse Engineering Centre in Utako on Friday, May 31.
