A four-hour meeting between the leadership of the National Assembly, the Executive Arm of government, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ended in a deadlock, leaving the proposed nationwide strike set to commence tomorrow.
The meeting, convened by the National Assembly leadership, aimed to avert the industrial action proposed by labor unions over the unresolved minimum wage issue.
After the meeting, Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo stated that the labor leaders could not unilaterally call off the strike without consulting their respective organizations.
“There was an appeal from the Senate President to call off the strike. However, we cannot make that decision on our own. We need to report back to our members before a final decision can be made. For now, we do not have the authority to suspend the strike,” Osifo explained.
