In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Nigerian pilgrim from the Kwara State contingent, Hajia Hawawu Mohammed, reportedly committed suicide by jumping from her rooftop in Madina, Saudi Arabia. The tragic incident was confirmed by Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, on Sunday.
Hajia Hawawu Mohammed’s demise was also confirmed by Saudi Arabian authorities, who classified her death as “suicidal”. Additionally, the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board announced the passing of another pilgrim, Saliu Mohammed, who succumbed to illness while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Madina. Saliu Mohammed was a member of the Batch 3 contingent from Kwara State.
Expressing deep regret over these unfortunate events, the pilgrims’ board submitted to the decree and ultimate knowledge of Allah in all affairs.
Similarly, the Kebbi Pilgrims Welfare Board mourned the loss of another pilgrim, Abubakar Abdullahi, from Gulma town in Argungu Local Government Area, who passed away in Makkah after a brief illness. Abubakar Abdullahi is the third Kebbi pilgrim to pass away in the holy land.
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State expressed shock over Abubakar Abdullahi’s death and offered prayers for the deceased’s eternal rest. He also extended his condolences to the immediate family, friends, and all Kebbi pilgrims, urging them to accept the will of God with fortitude.
Abubakar Abdullahi was laid to rest according to Islamic rites, following a funeral prayer at Masjid Al-Ihram (Ka’aba), on Friday.
