The Imo State Police command has apprehended a 27-year-old lady, Oluchi Nzemechi, hailing from Uzoagba in Ikeduru Council Area of Imo State, following the tragic death of her partner, Kelechi Nzemechi. The incident stemmed from an alleged dispute over the division of proceeds from internet fraud, commonly referred to as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, amounting to 250 Million Rupiah.

Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this development to reporters in Owerri on Monday, during the public parade of the suspect.

Providing insights into the incident, the Police command detailed, “Operatives of the Imo State Police Command, through meticulous investigation, apprehended a 27-year-old lady identified as Oluchi Nzemechi, from Uzoagba in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, in connection with the fatal stabbing of her partner, Kelechi Nzemechi, aged 31 years.”

“The suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, revealing that her partner had enticed her into internet fraud activities, commonly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’. On the fateful day of June 2, 2024, a heated argument ensued between them over her share of the allegedly fraudulent proceeds amounting to 250 Million Rupiah, obtained from a victim in Indonesia. During the altercation, she resorted to using a kitchen knife to fatally stab him in the upper part of his body.”

“The suspect admitted to leaving a handwritten note on the victim’s lifeless body in an attempt to conceal her actions, where she menacingly threatened retaliation against the victim’s family. She also disclosed that she had been cohabiting with the victim since 2019 and shares a child with him.”

“Efforts are underway to recover the alleged 250 million Indonesia Rupiah for possible restitution to the victim’s family. The suspect is presently undergoing thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be duly arraigned in court,” the Police concluded.
