The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search operation to recover the body of Francis Danjuma, a 32-year-old son of a police officer, who allegedly drowned in the Ogun River.

Danjuma, a resident of the Isheri Olofin community, left his home around 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, to bathe in the river.  The incident was reported by his father, Deputy Superintendent of Police Danjuma Shaibu, who resides at the Alausa Police Barracks in Lagos State.

Shaibu stated that his son left their home to bathe in the nearby Ogun River, where he reportedly drowned. Despite extensive efforts by family members and local divers, Danjuma’s body has yet to be recovered.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state command, informed newsmen on Thursday that police operatives at Ojodu-Abiodun have initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and recover the body.

“Upon receiving the tragic news, detectives from the Ojodu-Abiodun division visited the scene and coordinated with local divers and the Olofin Council to search for the body. Efforts to locate the body are ongoing. We are also working to uncover the details leading to this unfortunate incident,” Odutola said.

In a related incident, the Eyinwa community was thrown into disarray when a Benue indigene, Sunday Ogah, reportedly drowned in the Eyinwa River in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
