Not less than twenty travelers were reportedly abducted by gunmen along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway around 8 PM on Sunday. One victim was shot in the knee during the incident.
The ambush occurred between the Sagamu Area Command of the Nigeria Police and Ilisan township. Wemmy Osude, Chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, confirmed the incident to news outlets.
Osude stated that one of the victims, a resident of Ilisan Remo, is currently receiving medical treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. “Information reaching me right now confirms a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (formerly Delabo),” he said. “A resident of Ilisan was reportedly shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital. Other victims were taken into the bush. Please contact your loved ones who may be traveling on that road to be cautious.”
Osude also mentioned that he had spoken to the resident receiving treatment, who is in stable condition. He added, “I have spoken to the Sagamu Area Commander about this incident, and hopefully, all security agents will go after these criminals and rescue these people.”
This kidnapping follows the recent abduction of two others and the murder of Professor Yinka Olomojobi of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, at the Ajadeh Event Centre along Iperu-Sagamu Road, Iperu Remo, in the Ikenne Local Government area. Olomojobi was a professor of human rights and gender law.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as calls to her line did not connect.
