The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum for secondary schools across Nigeria will be introduced by September 2024. This announcement was made during the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.
“We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September,” stated Mamman.
Prof. Mamman highlighted that the curriculum development has been an ongoing process for the past year. A stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the details.
“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” he added.
Recently, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission expressed concern over the poor state of senior secondary schools in Nigeria. They emphasized the need for collaboration to address several challenges facing the education sector, such as infrastructural deficits, unqualified teachers, outdated curricula, and inadequate libraries and laboratories.
The introduction of the new curriculum is part of the efforts to tackle these issues.
