The Ijebu North Local Branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) held its second quarter meeting today, July 19, 2024. The meeting took place at the Senator Olabiyi Durojaye Office Complex within the Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat, Ijebu Igbo.

The gathering saw the attendance of several key figures, including heads of various organizations, the Youth Officer of Ijebu North Local Government, Mr. Olugbenga Okunneye; the Head of Department for Community Development in Ijebu North, Mr. J.O. Odugbemi; the Assistant Head of Department, Mrs. J.O. Adesanya; and the immediate past coordinator of the council, Comrade Ogunleye Ismail. Other notable stakeholders from the youth constituency also participated.

A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on preparations for the recently launched Youth Essay Competition, an initiative by the NYCN Directorate of Education & Training in Ijebu North. The coordinator, Ogbeni Abolaji Adeniyi Sobowale, encouraged all members to promote the competition and support qualified individuals in their communities to participate. He expressed strong confidence in the writing skills of the local youths.

Additionally, Ogbeni Sobowale announced that the current leadership of NYCN in Ijebu North will be celebrating its one year in office on August 8, 2024. This announcement was met with enthusiastic applause. He further revealed that the executive team would organize a program to commemorate this milestone.

Mr. Olugbenga Okunneye, the Youth Officer, praised the youth for their organizational skills and urged them to continue serving as role models. Heads of organizations and other council members commended the council’s leadership for its effective management and quality delivery of youth affairs since its inception.
