In an exhilarating finale, Oke Agbo FC emerged victorious against Ojowo FC with a 4-1 penalty shootout win to claim the 2024 Orimolusi Football Scouting Competition title. The competition, sponsored by Chief Emmanuel Toyin Odueyungbo, the Bobaselu of Ijebu Igbo Kingdom, is aimed at showcasing the best of local football talents in Ijebu Igbo.
The match, held at the Shamusudeen Grammar School Field, Oke Agbo, Ijebu Igbo, was fiercely contested, with both teams striving for a breakthrough during regular time. Oke Agbo FC dominated the game, creating numerous scoring opportunities and maintaining the highest ball possession. However, despite their efforts, the match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, leading to a penalty shootout.
Oke Agbo FC’s goalkeeper, Imole, proved to be the hero of the match, saving two crucial penalties to secure the win for his team. The shootout concluded with a 4-1 victory for Oke Agbo FC.
In his address post-match, Chief Toyin Odueyungbo congratulated the winning team and encouraged the runners-up to see the result as motivation for future competitions. He emphasized that the event aims to scout for football talents within Ijebu Igbo, who will form the proposed Ijebu Igbo Football Club. Chief Odueyungbo assured that the players would be presented to the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba Adebayo (OJUROMI VI), and registered for the state league. He urged them to remain focused to eventually reach the national league and beyond.
Chief Odueyungbo also announced that the competition would continue annually to discover more football talents. He revealed the prize money for the top teams: Oke Agbo FC received ₦150,000, Ojowo FC was awarded ₦100,000, and Oke Sopen 2 FC, who won the third-place match against Atikori FC on penalties, received ₦50,000.
The final match was graced by the presence of Prince Ademola Gbadebo, representing the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, the immediate past chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Mr. ‘Bolaji Odusanya, Chief Toyin Odueyungbo, his darling wife and other high profile dignitaries.
