Pandemonium erupted in the Mile 6 area of Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, following the tragic kidnapping and murder of a 17-year-old schoolgirl, Habeebah Akinsanya.
Habeebah, a student at Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, was abducted on Friday. Her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a member of the So-Safe Corps, immediately reported the incident to the Kemta Police Station in Abeokuta.
Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted Aremu, demanding a ransom of N1 million for his daughter’s release. In a desperate bid to save her life, Aremu complied, transferring the ransom to an Opay account provided by the kidnappers. The criminals initially provided a UBA account before switching to Opay.
Tragically, despite meeting their demands, Aremu’s worst fears were realized. On Sunday morning, he was directed to retrieve his daughter at a location near Obasa, a few kilometers from the OGTV/Mile 6 area. Upon arrival, he discovered Habeebah’s lifeless body, mutilated and covered with soldier ants. She had been brutally murdered, with multiple machete wounds inflicted on her body.
A source revealed that even after the heinous act, the kidnappers heartlessly contacted Aremu again on Sunday, demanding another ransom. Overwhelmed by grief and disbelief, Aremu reportedly protested against the unimaginable cruelty.
Habeebah was about to enter SS3 and would have turned 17 in October.
Soji Ganzallo, Commander of the So-Safe Corps, confirmed the tragic incident, stating, “Yes, we are aware of the sad incident and have launched an investigation.”
