The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO Aviance) has rewarded Mr. Auwal Dankode, a staff member, for his exemplary honesty after he found and returned $10,000 while cleaning an aircraft in Kano.
Dankode, who was part of a cleaning crew assigned to service the MS 878 flight operated by EgyptAir, discovered the money left behind by a passenger in seat 25H. Demonstrating remarkable integrity, he promptly handed the cash over to the airline’s station manager.
In recognition of his actions, the Group Managing Director of NAHCO, Mr. Indranil Gupta, praised Dankode, calling him a true ambassador of the company. Gupta highlighted that Dankode’s actions reflect the core values of NAHCO: honesty, integrity, diligence and hard work.
“We are incredibly proud of Auwal’s exemplary character,” Gupta said while announcing a generous cash reward, an instant promotion, and Dankode’s appointment as a NAHCO brand ambassador at a ceremony in Lagos. “This is just the beginning. Let the values instilled in you guide you as you grow into a leader who will make us all proud. Continue to uphold the same high standards of integrity and diligence.”
NAHCO’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Adeoye Emiloju, also commended Dankode, emphasizing that such integrity is a rare and inherent quality. “The honesty you’ve shown is not something that can be feigned. It’s a part of who you are,” Emiloju said.
Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Didier Steullet, further encouraged Dankode to remain steadfast in his values. “What you have done is truly commendable. You are an example not just for the week, but perhaps for the entire year,” Steullet remarked. “My advice to you is to stay grounded and not let the recognition on social media distract you. Continue on this path of integrity, and your life will be richly rewarding.”
Dr. Sola Obabori, Group Executive Director, added: “You’ve become a symbol of NAHCO, not just in Nigeria but globally. In today’s Nigeria, where the value of the dollar is so high, your decision to return such a significant amount of money is extraordinary. Your actions speak volumes about your purity of heart and are worthy of commendation. Every well-meaning Nigerian is proud of what you have done.”
Expressing his gratitude, Dankode shared, “No one from my area has ever worked at the airport before. I am deeply thankful to NAHCO for the training and the opportunity to earn a decent living. I am honored and humbled by the recognition of my efforts.”
As NAHCO’s new brand ambassador, Dankode will represent the company at major events across the country, promote its brand, and have opportunities to travel and interact with top officials and stakeholders.
