At the inauguration of the newly elected state working committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State on Friday, October 4, 2024, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, the newly elected state chairman, delivered an acceptance speech pledging inclusive leadership and unity within the party.
Ogundele began his speech by expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for the journey so far and acknowledged key figures who supported the party’s progress. Special thanks were given to Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagun, the PDP National Chairman, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their leadership and guidance.
The chairman commended party members in Ogun for their resilience and dedication, stating that their decision to prioritize party unity over personal gain had been instrumental in securing a fresh four-year mandate for the newly elected state working committee.
“We will not let you down,” Ogundele assured members, vowing to run an all-inclusive administration where all members will be true stakeholders and partners.
In a bid to foster peace and financial stability, Ogundele announced the formation of two standing committees: a Peace and Reconciliation Committee, led by Hon. Adekunle Abdulkadir Akinlade, and a Finance Committee, chaired by Hon. Dimeji Fabiyi. Additionally, Hon. Akinlade was appointed as the Strategic Political Advisor (SPA) to the chairman.
A key part of Ogundele’s vision includes the establishment of new secretariats in each of Ogun’s 20 local governments and 236 wards. These “PDP Inclusivity Arenas” will symbolize a shift from a party structure centered around individuals to one that reflects collective ownership and ambition.
Ogundele also charged local government chairmen to inaugurate their respective executives and collaborate with the finance committee on the cost of new offices and furniture.
Concluding his speech, Ogundele expressed hope that the Peace and Reconciliation Committee would bring all aggrieved members together, building bridges across different political interests within the party.
The speech ended on a unifying note as Ogundele reiterated his commitment to an administration free from sectionalism or bias, stating, “An all-inclusive administration devoid of sectional or bias leadership is what we promise.”
The event marked the start of a new chapter for the PDP in Ogun State, with Ogundele’s leadership centered on inclusivity, reconciliation, and a renewed sense of unity.
