Allegations of financial mismanagement have rocked the Sagamu chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as concerned councillorship candidates and party members have formally accused Asiwaju Bola Oluwole (popularly known as ABO) of misappropriating logistics funds meant for the 2024 local government elections.
In a signed petition addressed to the PDP leadership, the aggrieved members claim that ABO deducted ₦250,000 from the funds allocated to each councillorship candidate under unclear circumstances. The alleged deductions amount to millions of naira, with the petitioners asserting that similar actions occurred during the last general elections.
The petition also highlights a lack of transparency in party logistics. Candidates were reportedly compelled to finance transportation for party members attending assignments in Abeokuta without receiving proper accounting or explanations.
A pointed question in the petition reads: “Can LADO give money to councillors with the right hand and collect it back with the left hand through Bola?” This statement underscores the frustration among party members who feel exploited by the alleged actions of the accused.
Moreover, the petition criticizes the treatment of party agents during the elections. Despite their significant efforts and facing harassment from the ruling party, the agents were allegedly neither appreciated nor compensated.
The petitioners have called on the PDP leadership to:
- Investigate the allegations thoroughly.
- Hold accountable any individuals found guilty of financial mismanagement.
- Implement reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
The petition ends with a strong call for transparency and good governance within the party.
As of the time of reporting, Instant News has not been able to reach neither ABO nor the PDP leadership for an official response to the allegations. Party insiders, however, suggest that this controversy could further strain relations within the Ogun east senatorial district, if not curtailed.
