The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has alleged that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force arrested commission staff deployed for election duty across the state.
Abioye made this claim in a statement posted on the commission’s official X page on Saturday.
While commending voters for turning out to exercise their franchise, he expressed regret over the commission’s inability to provide accreditation materials, attributing the challenge to police actions.
He explained that security operatives had sealed off the OSSIEC headquarters, where the materials were kept, leading to delays in some polling units.
“For the units where materials didn’t arrive early, it was due to the police arresting officials conveying them. However, new materials have been deployed, and voting is now ongoing,” he stated.
As of press time, the police had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
