In a bid to empower young women and reduce unemployment rate, the Ijebu North Branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in collaboration with the Bakery Initiative and the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment, has flagged off a two-week skill acquisition training program for young women in the local government.
The initiative, aimed at equipping 100 female participants between the ages of 18 and 35, will provide hands-on training in cake making, basic cake decoration, pastries and bread production, all at no cost to the participants.
Registration for the program begins on Wednesday, April 23 and ends on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Interested applicants are expected to register in person at the NYCN Office located within the Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat in Ijebu Igbo. A birth certificate is required to verify age eligibility.
Speaking on the initiative, Ogbeni Abolaji Adeniyi Sobowale, the NYCN Coordinator for Ijebu North, urged young women in the area to take full advantage of the opportunity.
“This collaboration is a strategic intervention to empower our young women with practical, income-generating skills. It’s a chance to become self-reliant, and I encourage every eligible young lady to step forward and register,” Sobowale stated.
The program is part of ongoing joint efforts by the NYCN, Bakery Initiative, and the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment to combat youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship amongst the youths.
