The Ogun State Government has sealed four industries across the state for various environmental infractions, including pollution, illegal construction, and obstruction of regulatory enforcement.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta by the Information Officer of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Segun Adebesin.
According to the statement, the affected companies include Fortune Height Farms Limited and Sanda Wood Industry Limited, both located in Odogbolu Local Government Area; Shengceramic Material Limited along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogere; and Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited in Ijako, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA and Chairman of the State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, said the action followed petitions and findings from recent inspections.
He explained that Fortune Height Farms Limited, which engages in egg and catfish production, was shut down after the agency received a petition from the host community, accusing the company of discharging untreated effluents into the environment.
Sanda Wood Industry Limited was sealed for denying government officials access to its premises and engaging in open burning, a violation of environmental safety standards.
Similarly, Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited was sealed for encroaching on waterways and constructing drainage infrastructure without the required government approval.
“Ogun State government will not fold its arms and allow industries to flout environmental regulations,” Akintunde stated.
