The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the federal government to extend the retirement age for all civil servants to 65 years or 40 years of service, in line with what is currently applicable to teachers, health professionals, and judicial officers.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made the call on Thursday during the 2025 May Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, where he presented the union’s key demands.

“It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service, currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges, to all public servants,” Ajaero said.

He argued that such a move would promote equity, boost worker morale, and improve productivity across the public sector.
