A veteran broadcaster with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, tragically passed away on Monday after collapsing while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned station in Abeokuta.
Her death was confirmed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun. Agbakaizu, aged 52, was a former Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel and an ex-Officio member of the NUJ Council until her demise.
According to a statement from the council, “Bukola Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of Ogun State Television, tragically collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift. Despite swift efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.”
The NUJ described her as a versatile journalist, passionate comrade, and a committed media professional whose contributions left a lasting impact. “Her vibrant spirit and dedication to journalism will be sorely missed. She leaves behind an irreplaceable void in our media community.”
She is survived by her two children, her aged mother, and numerous colleagues and friends who now mourn her passing.
In a separate condolence message, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, expressed profound sorrow over her sudden death.
The chapter’s Chairperson, Comrade Sekinat Salam, described Agbakaizu as a consummate professional and a dedicated media worker whose demise is a “painful and bitter pill to swallow.”
“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu’s death with a rude shock,” the statement read. “Her passing comes at a time when her experience and exemplary leadership were most needed.”
Salam added that Agbakaizu’s compassion, professionalism, and unwavering passion for journalism will remain cherished by all who knew her.
“Though she passed at the age of 52, her devotion to God and service to humanity will be remembered for years to come. We pray that her soul finds eternal rest, and that God Almighty grants strength and protection to the family she left behind.”
