…Says he’s ready to serve with integrity and courage

Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd), has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Al-Mustapha made the announcement on Tuesday during a strategic engagement with the SDP’s Niger State executive committee and party supporters in Minna.

Expressing deep concern over Nigeria’s current state, the retired military officer pledged to lead with integrity and a renewed commitment to national reconstruction.

“I am pained and deeply concerned about the current state of the nation. However, with the right direction and commitment, Nigeria can rise again. Though the road ahead may be rough, together we can rebuild the Nigeria we all deserve,” he stated.

The meeting, he noted, was part of broader consultations with stakeholders across the country as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement issued by Jubril Umar Sanda, Director of News Media and ICT for the campaign, Al-Mustapha is “fully prepared for the journey ahead, ready to serve with integrity, courage, and a clear plan for progress.”

As part of his visit to Niger State, Al-Mustapha also stopped in Mokwa to commiserate with victims of a recent flood disaster, which displaced over 200 residents and caused significant damage to property. He emphasized the urgent need for responsive leadership, national unity, and sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s growing challenges.

In his remarks, SDP State Chairman, Alhaji Buhari Yakubu Yarima, welcomed the declaration and commended Al-Mustapha’s dedication to national service. He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the polls.

“We are confident that with credible candidates and a clear vision, the SDP will be a force to reckon with in 2027,” Yarima said.

With Al-Mustapha’s formal entry into the race, the field of aspirants positioning themselves for Nigeria’s top job continues to expand, reflecting growing public demand for effective leadership and national renewal.
