Former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, has dismissed speculations of a rift between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes on Monday, Shehu emphasized that both leaders remain united under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and no formal disagreement exists between them.
“People are entitled to their opinions, but officially, there is no distrust or fallout between the Buhari and Tinubu administrations,” he said.
Shehu reiterated Buhari’s loyalty to the APC, the platform on which he secured the presidency after three unsuccessful attempts. “For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s still very much a member of the APC. He has always maintained, ‘I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office,’” Shehu noted.
Responding to reports suggesting unease within Buhari’s camp over recent developments in the party, Shehu downplayed the claims. “We read these statements when people say such things. Are we disturbed? I don’t think that’s the right word,” he said.
He further explained that those who were instrumental in the formation of the APC in 2014 understand the effort and sacrifices it took and are unlikely to undermine the party.
“It took hard work, energy, and sacrifice to bring the APC together. After several failed attempts, opposition groups came together in 2014 and won. Those who witnessed how much it took to build that coalition are not the ones who will tear it down,” Shehu added.
