Mohammed Babangida, the eldest son of former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has debunked claims that he rejected his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), describing a viral letter to that effect as “fake” and malicious.

Reacting to the letter circulating on social media, Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi, one of Babangida’s media aides, dismissed the document as a fabrication by “disgruntled elements” bent on misleading the public.

“The letter is entirely fake. Mohammed Babangida did not reject the appointment. The signature on the letter is forged, and the phone numbers listed are not his,” Mahmud clarified.

He further affirmed that Babangida has “gratefully accepted” the federal government’s appointment and extended his deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him.

“We wish to assure the public that Mohammed Babangida is honored by the opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector through his new role at the Bank of Agriculture,” the statement read.

Mahmud also stressed that efforts are underway to identify the sources of the misinformation, adding that those responsible for spreading falsehoods would be investigated and brought to justice.

It will be recalled that Mohammed Babangida’s appointment was among a number of high-level board and management appointments approved last week by President Tinubu to reposition strategic federal institutions.
