Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, dismissing rumours linking him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at his GRA residence in Ilorin on Tuesday, Saraki urged his supporters across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State to remain steadfast in the PDP, assuring them that ongoing efforts to reposition the party would soon yield positive outcomes.
“I’m here as a democrat, responding to the calls of loyal supporters who want clarity on the party’s direction,” Saraki said. “There has been speculation about my involvement with the ADC. Let me be clear—I never directed anyone to join the ADC.”
He emphasized the importance of party unity ahead of the PDP’s forthcoming national convention, urging members to remain committed and focused.
“You’ve been observing developments at the national level. I owe it to you to provide first-hand updates. Our decision is to remain in the PDP because we believe the current repositioning efforts will bear fruit,” he added.
Saraki also encouraged members to take the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise—scheduled to begin on August 18, 2025—very seriously. He applauded their participation in the last membership revalidation and called for continued grassroots engagement.
In his remarks, Kwara State PDP Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, reiterated that the PDP is not part of any political coalition and remains the only true opposition party in Nigeria.
“The PDP is intact in Kwara State,” he stated. “We are not in any merger or alliance. PDP is strong and ready for victory in the next general elections.”
He further announced that nomination forms for the upcoming state congress would range from ₦1 million for state chairmanship aspirants to ₦20,000 for ward executive positions.
The event was attended by prominent party leaders, including former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje; PDP National Legal Adviser, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ahmad Ali; former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Ladi Hassan; Engineer Kale Kawu Agaka; and Board of Trustees member, Alhaja Nimota Ibrahim.
Also present were PDP chairmen and executives from the 16 LGAs, senatorial district chairmen, women and youth leaders, among others.
