A 37-year-old woman, Akanji Kofoworola, has been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly publishing and distributing false and obscene content against popular Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Lizzy Anjorin, via her Facebook account.
Kofoworola was brought before Magistrate Wahab Balogun by operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, publication of fake news, and defamation.
According to the prosecutor, Haruna Ibrahim, the defendant and several other bloggers—currently at large—allegedly committed the offences between 2023 and 2025 within Lagos State.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged actions contravene Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and are punishable under the same provisions.
One of the charges reads: “That you, Akanji Kofoworola ‘F’, and others now at large, between 2023 and 2025 in Lagos, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully publish statements and rumours about one Lizzy Anjorin on Facebook, knowing or having reason to believe such information to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 39 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
Kofoworola pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following her plea, the prosecutor requested that the court remand the defendant pending trial. However, her counsel made an oral bail application, arguing that the alleged offences are bailable.
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Balogun granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦100,000, with two sureties in like sum and other stipulated conditions.
The matter was adjourned until August 21, 2025, for trial.
