The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an official apology following the discovery of technical issues affecting the recently released results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, by the Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, the Council acknowledged the glitch and assured the public that immediate steps were being taken to rectify the situation.

According to WAEC, the technical issue stemmed from a new security measure introduced during the examination process — a system known as paper serialisation, which was applied to major subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. The method, already in use by another national examination body, was aimed at curbing malpractice and ensuring the integrity of the exams.

However, a post-release internal review revealed that the paper serialisation system introduced unforeseen technical bugs that compromised the accuracy of some candidates’ scores.

As a corrective measure, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to the online result checker portal while the technical issues are being resolved. The Council assured candidates and the public that the portal would be restored within 24 hours, after which updated and accurate results would be available.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused our candidates and stakeholders,” the statement read. “WAEC remains fully committed to fairness, professionalism, and transparency in all its assessment processes. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all concerned as we work diligently to resolve the issue.”

Candidates who have already accessed their results are advised to recheck after 24 hours for any necessary updates.
